NEW DELHI: An exhibition on the Himalayas will open in Delhi on Monday as part of a celebration of India's intangible cultural heritage led by the UNESCO and a well-known motorbike manufacturing firm.
The Bikaner House will host the exhibition, entitled "Journeying Across the Himalayas," from August 22 to 25,  officials said.
"UNESCO and Royal Enfield are working together to honour and promote India's intangible cultural heritage, starting with the Himalayas. This relationship is represented through the exhibition, which will be unveiled on Monday, a senior UNESCO official said. They claimed that the two parties just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard.
According to the official, the exhibition's main focus will be on the intangible cultural legacy of the northeastern states that are part of the Himalayan area, primarily Ladakh and the Union Territory.
From August 23–25, in addition to the exhibition, a number of activities will be organised with a focus on the Himalayas and its intangible cultural heritage (ICH).
They said that on Tuesday, there will be a number of panel talks on topics including the Intangible Cultural Heritage of India: Relevance and Opportunity, Rites and Their Explorations, and Traveling the Himalayas Through Taste.
Among the many events planned for next week are discussions on textile traditions, the tale of the indigenous Mishing tribe, and artists' expressions of the Himalayas' living heritage.
